Morocco Car Rental FAQ

Clear, honest answers about our direct Moroccan fleet, 100% Zero Deposit policy, airport curbside delivery, and road safety.

Zero Deposit Policy

Zero Security Deposit & Guarantees

Is there really zero security deposit required at pickup?

Yes, 100% zero deposit. Unlike traditional airport rental desks that freeze 10,000 to 25,000 MAD (£1,000-£2,000) on your credit card for weeks, Etsycars never blocks or freezes any deposit funds. You simply pay your agreed transparent daily rental fee (e.g. 280-320 MAD/day). Take the keys and drive away.

Can I pay with a regular debit card or cash?

Yes! Because we do not require a pre-authorisation guarantee hold, you are completely free to pay with a standard Visa/Mastercard debit card, credit card, or cash in Moroccan Dirhams (MAD) or Euros (EUR) upon vehicle handover outside the airport terminal.

Why do traditional rental companies block such huge deposits in Morocco?

Broker aggregators and multinational airport franchises use high security deposit holds as leverage to pressure arriving travellers into buying exorbitant optional insurance waivers at the counter. At Etsycars, we operate our own direct fleet and eliminated credit card holds entirely.

What happens in case of minor scratches or accidental damage?

Every Etsycars rental includes Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Third-Party Liability insurance. We carry out an honest, joint 3-minute video and photographic condition check together at curbside pickup and return. Pre-existing marks are time-stamped so you are 100% protected.

Are there any hidden airport pickup fees or franchise charges?

No. Airport delivery to the terminal curbside, airport concession fees, local VAT taxes, and 24/7 roadside assistance are all included in your written daily quote. The price you see is the exact total you pay.

Terminal Handover

Airport Curbside Delivery & Return

Where exactly do I meet the Etsycars representative at the airport?

Our representative greets you right outside the public arrivals customs exit doors holding a sign with your name. We assist with your luggage and walk 2 minutes directly to the curbside express parking lot (e.g. Parking P1 at Marrakech Menara or Terminal 1/2 curbside at Casablanca). No shuttle buses, no rental counter queues.

What happens if my flight is delayed by several hours?

We track all customer flights using live aviation radar. Even if your flight is delayed by 2, 3, or 4 hours, our representative adjusts automatically and will be waiting for you when you land at no extra cost.

How does vehicle drop-off work at the end of my trip?

We coordinate curbside drop-off right outside the airport departure terminal drop-off lane. We conduct a quick 2-minute visual check, verify the fuel gauge, collect the keys, and you walk straight into terminal check-in. Because there is zero deposit, you never wait weeks for bank funds to unfreeze.

Can I pick up in one Moroccan airport and drop off in another?

Yes! We provide one-way airport rentals across all nine international Moroccan airports (e.g. pickup in Marrakech RAK, return in Casablanca CMN or Agadir AGA). Any applicable relocation fee is quoted upfront with zero surprise charges.

Pricing & Fuel

Pricing, Inclusions & Fuel Policy

What is your fuel policy?

We operate a fair same-to-same fuel policy. The fuel gauge level is photographed and recorded on your handover sheet (e.g. 1/2 tank or full), and you return the vehicle with the equivalent level. There are no marked-up refueling penalties.

Is unlimited mileage included?

Yes, all our rentals include generous unlimited mileage across Morocco, giving you total freedom to explore the Atlantic coastline, the High Atlas valleys, and imperial cities.

Are highway tolls (Autoroutes du Maroc) included in the price?

Moroccan motorway tolls (ADM) and city parking fees are paid directly by the driver as you travel. Tolls are affordable (e.g. Casablanca to Marrakech is approx. 80-90 MAD) and payable in cash Dirhams or via Jawaz tag at toll gates.

Can I add an additional driver or a child seat?

Yes! An additional authorized driver can be added for 25 MAD/day, and certified ISOFIX child seats or booster seats are available for 30 MAD/day upon request during booking.

Road Rules

Driving in Morocco, Laws & Safety

What side of the road do you drive on in Morocco?

Driving is on the right side of the road, identical to mainland Europe, the United States, and Canada. Standard international road signs are used throughout the Kingdom with captions in Arabic and French.

What are the typical speed limits and how do speed radars work?

Usual speed limits are 120 km/h on ADM motorways, 100 km/h on rural expressways, and 60 km/h within towns and city limits. Automated fixed radars and Royal Gendarmerie laser checkpoints are strictly enforced. Fines for speeding range from 150 to 400 MAD and are payable immediately with an official state receipt.

How should I handle police checkpoints (Barrages Routiers)?

Checkpoints are routine and safe. When you see a "Ralentir" sign, slow down to 20 km/h; if the officer gestures forward, proceed slowly. If you see a "Halte Police" sign, stop completely at the white line. Keep your vehicle documents folder (Carte Grise, insurance, rental contract) in the glove box for inspection.

Where should I park when visiting historic Medinas?

Moroccan medinas are pedestrian-only walled cities. You must park in secured peripheral parking lots near city gates (e.g. Bab Doukkala or Koutoubia in Marrakech). Look for official parking guardians wearing yellow or orange reflective vests. Daytime parking is typically 5-10 MAD, and overnight guarded parking is 20-30 MAD.

Eligibility

Licence Requirements & Driver Age

What documents do I need to rent an Etsycars vehicle?

You only need two physical documents at airport pickup: 1) Your original national driving licence held for at least one full continuous year, and 2) Your physical passport (or Moroccan CIN card for Moroccan nationals).

Do I need an International Driving Permit (IDP)?

If your home driving license is printed in the Latin alphabet (such as UK, European, US, Canadian, or GCC licenses), an IDP is not required - Moroccan authorities recognize Latin script licenses directly. If your license uses non-Latin script (Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese), an IDP accompanying your national license is legally required.

What is the minimum driver age and is there a young driver fee?

The minimum driver age is 21 years old with at least one full year of licensed driving experience. We do not charge any young driver surcharges or hidden age penalties.

Flexibility & Help

What should I do in case of a roadside mechanical issue or puncture?

Can I drive the vehicle outside Morocco or take a ferry to Spain?

No. All Etsycars vehicles are strictly insured and licensed for use within the sovereign territory of the Kingdom of Morocco. Boarding maritime ferries or attempting to cross international land borders is strictly prohibited by law.
